Turn Around, You Have To Try This Cafe
Turner, Oregon is a little town. There are parades and 4H shows and a swimming pool that is the place to be, come June. But the greatest gem that this little town has to offer sits right on 3rd Street -- you can't enter the town without passing it. Turnaround Cafe, open 7 AM - 2 PM is a little taste of Heaven with the goodies it provides.
When I first visited Turnaround Cafe, I was expecting a small, greasy diner that had excellent, but predictable food.
I was half right.
The food at Turnaround is excellent. It is beyond excellent. It is all made in-house, from the pulled pork (which, hello, they put ON PANCAKES!!!) to the cinnamon rolls that can easily feed four. That's where I'm half wrong...nothing about Turnaround Cafe is predictable. The ingredients are fresh and local, leaping off the plate and igniting your taste buds with flavor. While the diner classics are still held to high importance, there is no greasy spoon in this joint. It seems like it's too good to be true, and then...
THEN YOU EAT LEMON RICOTTA COOKIES THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR ENTIRE LIFE.
When you are on your way out of Turnaround Cafe, stuffed to the brim with breakfast delights and lunch favorites, you will pass a little table with treats ready to take home. Look at those treats. Notice their beauty. And then, when your eyes glance upon the wonder that is lemon ricotta cookies, STAHP. Stop right there, pick them up, and buy as many of those delightful little boxes as you can get your hands on. Yes, you're full. No, you normally don't need to end a meal with cookies. But Turnaround Cafe is not normal. Turnaround Cafe requires you to eat cookies after your meal because you will spend the rest of your life regretting it if you don't!
Ok, so I'm a little melodramatic. And hungry.
But in all seriousness, the lemon ricotta cookies at Turnaround Cafe are undeniably delicious, easily the best cookie I have ever eaten in my entire life. Light and fluffy, packed with lemony-sugar goodness without overwhelming your taste buds. In short, eat the dang cookies.
Next time you're within the vicinity of Turner, Oregon, turn around!
